Igartubeiti Baserria

The Igartubeiti Baserria is a 16th-century farmhouse located in Ezkio-Itsaso, Gipuzkoa, in the Basque Country. It is considered one of the finest examples of a traditional Basque farmhouse, or baserri, and serves as a museum dedicated to preserving and showcasing the region’s rural and cultural heritage. The structure reflects the architectural style of the time, with its wooden framework and expansive interior spaces designed for agricultural and domestic purposes.

Historically, the Igartubeiti Baserria was a family-run farm that played a central role in the agrarian economy of the Basque Country. Its architecture includes a large press for cider-making, a vital activity in the rural Basque lifestyle. The cider press, one of the most significant preserved elements of the house, illustrates the importance of cider production in the 16th and 17th centuries.

Today, the farmhouse operates as an open-air museum and interpretation center. It offers visitors an opportunity to learn about traditional Basque farming practices, domestic life, and construction techniques. Exhibits include original tools, furniture, and restored architectural features, alongside multimedia presentations and educational activities.
