Marqués de Riscal winery

The Marqués de Riscal winery, located in Elciego, Álava, in the Rioja Alavesa region, is one of Spain’s oldest and most prestigious wineries. It is renowned not only for its high-quality wines but also for its distinctive architecture, particularly the hotel designed by Frank Gehry.

Founded in 1858 by Guillermo Hurtado de Amézaga, Marqués de Riscal, the winery played a pioneering role in introducing French winemaking techniques to the Rioja region. It was the first winery in Rioja to produce Bordeaux-style wines, and in 1972, it was also the first to produce white wine in the region, using the Verdejo grape.

The winery’s most striking feature is the Hotel Marqués de Riscal, a luxury hotel designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry. Completed in 2006, the hotel is a masterpiece of deconstructivist architecture, characterized by its flowing lines, titanium roof, and vibrant colors.

The Marqués de Riscal winery is a unique destination that combines history, winemaking tradition, and cutting-edge architecture. It offers visitors a chance to experience the world of wine in a truly exceptional setting.
