When & Where: The closes Wednesday to September 8, in the town center of Ordizia.
The Basque Festivies of Ordizia, also known as Euskal Jaiak, are annual celebrations held in September in the town of Ordizia, located in the province of Gipuzkoa. Their origins date back to 1614, when an Extraordinary Fair was established with the authorization of King Philip III. Initially scheduled for the feast of San Bartolome, it was later moved to the Wednesday closest to September 8.
Today, these festivities revolve around an agricultural and livestock market, which stands out for the participation of local producers. Additionally, various activities related to Basque culture and traditional sports take place. One of the most emblematic events is the Ordizia Idiazabal Cheese Competition, after which half of the winning cheese is auctioned for charitable purposes, sometimes reaching bids exceeding 5000 euros.
These festivities offer a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in Basque traditions, providing an authentic experience that combines history, gastronomy, and culture in a festive atmosphere.
