Jardines de la Taconera

The Jardines de la Taconera are the oldest and most emblematic park in Pamplona. Located near the historic center, they cover approximately 90.000 square meters and are known for their blend of French-style landscaping, scenic viewpoints, and a unique animal enclosure integrated into the medieval walls.

Created in the 19th century, the gardens retain a classical design with wide paths, ornamental flowerbeds, and sculptures. The layout includes a variety of tree species, such as plane trees, cypresses, and horse chestnuts, providing shaded areas for walking and relaxation. One of the park’s most notable features is its strategic location on the old city walls, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

A distinctive aspect of the Jardines de la Taconera is its small zoo, where deer, peacocks, ducks, and other animals live freely in the moat of the ancient fortifications. This integration of nature and heritage makes the park a unique attraction within Pamplona.

Among its monuments, the park includes the Monument to Julián Gayarre, dedicated to the famous Navarrese tenor, and several historic structures such as the Portal de San Nicolás, a preserved city gate from the old fortifications. The park is also home to the Café Vienés, a traditional meeting point that enhances its charm.
