Wine Harvest Festival of Navarre

When & Where: The last weekend of August or the first of September, around Plaza Carlos III el Noble, in Olite.

Every year at the end of August or at the beginning of September, the town of Olite, in the heart of Navarra’s wine region, hosts the Fiesta de la Vendimia, organised by the Cofradía del Vino de Navarra. This event marks the symbolic beginning of the grape-harvest and pays tribute to the wine-growing tradition anchored in the region’s landscape and history.

The celebration spans a weekend and often includes days of prior activities, with the town centre and historic Plaza Carlos III “el Noble” as focal venues. Among the main elements are: the official prologue to the celebration; the traditional pisada de la uva (the grape-treading) performed cooperatively by local authorities and vineyards; the blessing and public tasting of the first musts of the year; and a popular wine tasting organised by vineyards from the D.O. Navarra.

In addition, the programme incorporates enotourism offerings, such as guided visits to neighbouring bodegas, thematic workshops, gastronomic pairings of regional cuisine with local wines, and cultural events ranging from traditional Navarrese jotas to live music and parades. The setting of Olite, with its medieval architecture and royal palace, enhances the overall experience.

For visitors seeking an immersive experience of Navarra’s wine-culture, the Fiesta de la Vendimia offers a unique combination of ritual, sensory enjoyment and regional identity. Participation in the tastings and accompanying events requires early planning, as many of the tastings and guided tours operate with reservation.
