Artziniega Ethnographic Museum

The Artziniega Ethnographic Museum is located in the town of Artziniega, in Araba. Founded in 1984, the museum was established to preserve and display the cultural heritage and traditional way of life of the region. It is one of the most significant ethnographic collections in the Basque Country, offering insights into rural and urban life from past centuries.

The museum is housed in the former Carmelite School, a 19th-century building dating from 1893. It features 1.700 square meters of exhibition space distributed across 17 galleries and contains more than 26.000 objects. These exhibits showcase tools, household items, and equipment related to various trades and crafts, such as agriculture, blacksmithing, carpentry, and textiles. The collection also includes domestic objects that illustrate daily life, as well as religious and festive traditions unique to the region.

The museum plays an important role in preserving the cultural identity of Araba and the broader Basque Country. It serves as an educational resource for understanding the social and economic history of the area, offering context about how local communities adapted to changing times while maintaining their traditions.
