Izenaduba basoa

Izenaduba Basoa is a cultural and educational theme park located in Mungia, Bizkaia. Established in 2004, the park is dedicated to preserving and promoting Basque mythology, traditions, and folklore. It provides visitors with an interactive experience that combines education and entertainment, particularly for families and school groups.

At the heart of Izenaduba Basoa stands Landetxo Goiko, one of the oldest farmhouse in Bizkaia. Built in 1510 and carefully preserved over the centuries, this remarkable baserri is a living testament to Basque rural heritage. More than just a historic building, Landetxo Goiko offers visitors a unique opportunity to step inside the world of their ancestors and discover how Basque families lived, worked, and organized their daily lives for generations.

Izenaduba Basoa offers two distinct types of guided experiences throughout the year, each designed for different audiences and interests.

Christmas Season Visits

During November and December, Izenaduba Basoa transforms into a magical world dedicated to Christmas traditions, Basque mythology, and family experiences. These visits are specially designed for children and their families, allowing visitors to meet the legendary Olentzero and discover the fascinating characters, stories, and traditions of Basque mythology in an immersive and enchanting environment.

While Olentzero is the central figure of the visit, the park brings to life many more characters from Basque mythology, such as Mari (the goddess of nature), Galtzagorriak (mischievous, hardworking goblins named after their distinctive red trousers) and other legendary beings like Lamiak and Tartalo.

Cultural Heritage Visits

From January to September, Izenaduba Basoa offers guided visits aimed primarily at adults and visitors interested in Basque history, culture, and folklore.

These tours open the doors of Landetxo Goikoa, considered the oldest farmhouse in Bizkaia. Visitors are invited to step inside the home of our ancestors and gain a first-hand understanding of their daily lives, customs, traditions, folklore, and beliefs about the unknown. This unique experience provides an authentic journey into the roots of Basque culture and rural heritage.

All visits to Izenaduba Basoa are available by advance reservation only. To ensure the best possible experience, it is not possible to visit without a prior booking.
