The Haizearen orrazia XV or Peine del Viento XV is an iconic sculptural ensemble in Donostia-San SebastiƔn, located at the western end of La Concha Bay, at the end of Ondarreta Beach. It was designed by the sculptor Eduardo Chillida and the architect Luis PeƱa Ganchegui, and was inaugurated in 1977.
The artwork consists of three steel structures anchored to the coastal rocks, in a setting where the sea and wind constantly interact with the sculptures. The large, curved pieces appear to merge with the landscape, blending harmoniously with nature. Their location, at a point where the waves crash forcefully, reinforces the sensation of dynamism and perpetual transformation.
The surroundings of the Peine del Viento also feature a granite platform designed by PeƱa Ganchegui, with a series of vents in the ground through which water and air surge when the waves hit the coast, creating a distinctive visual and sound effect.
This work is one of Donostiaās most recognizable symbols and a must-visit site. It represents a synthesis of art and nature, a dialogue between material and the elements. Beyond its artistic value, the Peine del Viento is a place for contemplation and reflection, where visitors and locals alike enjoy the views of the Cantabrian Sea and the power of nature.
