Mercado de la Almendra

When & Where: First Saturday of each month, from 10:30 to 15:00, in the Medieval Quarter of Vitoria Gasteiz.

The Mercado de la Almendra is one of the most emblematic cultural and social events held in Vitoria-Gasteiz, offering visitors an authentic experience of local life in the capital of Álava. This open-air market takes place on the first Saturday of each month in the Medieval Quarter, which is popularly known as La Almendra (The Almond) because of its distinctive almond-shaped layout.

During the market, the historic streets and squares of the old town, such as Plaza de la Burullería, Correría, Cuchillería, and Pintorería, fill with stalls selling a wide range of local and artisanal products. Visitors can find seasonal produce, cheeses, cured meats, honey, pastries, crafts, and handmade goods, all presented directly by local producers and artisans.

In addition to the market itself, various entertainment activities take place, such as concerts, “txarangas” or brass bands, and traditional dances, creating a lively and festive atmosphere throughout the historic streets.

The setting of the Medieval Quarter adds a unique historical and architectural charm. Its narrow, cobbled streets, Gothic churches, and traditional houses with wooden balconies provide a perfect backdrop for the market’s activity.
