Restaurant Bakea

Bakea is a restaurant in Mungia, Bizkaia, founded by Alatz Bilbao, which marries his family’s metalworking heritage with visionary Basque cuisine.

The space is small and intimate (around 20 diners), with a long communal wooden table, and every utensil, plate, and fixture is designed or crafted in-house.

The kitchen works exclusively with fire and wood, no gas or electricity for cooking. Led by young chef Alatz Bilbao, who in another life practiced the craft of ironworking, Bakea also pays tribute to the world of metal through cutlery, tableware, and utensils designed and crafted in its own workshop.

The restaurant offers a culinary experience that explores every nuance of fire through surprising techniques and combinations. The menu is a seasonal tasting of about a dozen inventive courses that celebrate local producers and the terroir of Euskal Herria. This approach has earned Bakea two Repsol Suns and quickly placed it among working high-profile openings in the region.
