The Oteiza Museum, located in Alzuza, near Pamplona, is dedicated to the work and legacy of Jorge Oteiza (1908–2003), one of the most significant sculptors and theorists of 20th-century Basque art. The museum houses the artist’s extensive collection, including over 1.650 sculptures, sketches, and experimental works, as well as a vast archive of his writings and personal research.

Oteiza, born in Orio, was a key figure in the renewal of modern sculpture, particularly through his studies on spatial emptiness and form reduction. His most notable contributions lie in his exploration of abstraction and the use of geometric shapes, often linked to the Constructivist and Minimalist movements. In the 1950s, he gained international recognition for his “Experimental Proposal,” a series of sculptural works in which he progressively emptied the solid forms, leaving behind structures that emphasized space rather than mass.

The museum, designed by architect Francisco Javier Sáenz de Oiza, integrates contemporary architecture with the natural landscape, offering an open and illuminated space that enhances the appreciation of Oteiza’s work. The building also preserves the artist’s former residence and studio, providing insight into his creative process and philosophy.
